    Even painting
    representationally, I
    continue to rely
    heavily on my
    background in
    abstraction to guide
    me. The balance
    between abstraction
    and the illusion of
    reality is the
    challenge that
    keeps me excited
    about painting
    every day.

    Use design to strengthen
    and enhance your paintings.
John will help you in all
    aspects of painting a
    representational cityscape or
    town scene – choosing the
    subject, adding mood and
    creating emotional content,
    lighting the scene for
    dramatic effect, using photo
    references in a meaningful
    way and most importantly,
    strengthening and enhancing
    representational painting
    through design. This is an
    invaluable opportunity to
    gain new painting insights
    and lots of one-on-one
    individual help. John is a
    signature member of the
    AWS, TWSA, NWS and
    many more.

participants in all aspects of painting a representational cityscape or town scene – choosing the subject, adding
mood and creating emotional content, lighting the scene for dramatic effect, using photo reference in a meaningful
way and most importantly, strengthening and enhancing representational painting through design. The workshop
will include demonstrations, critiques and lots of one-on-one individual help.  Whether you’ve never tried painting
cityscapes or are an experienced urban painter, this workshop will be an invaluable opportunity to gain new painting
    insights.

Day 4:  Depending on the needs of the group, either all day will be spend in the studio with participants working on
their paintings and John helping individually OR half of the day will be spent on location sketching, and the other
half on studio work with one-to-one help.

Day 5:  In the morning, participants will complete their paintings.  In the afternoon, John will do a full group
critique of the paintings completed in the workshop.
