Join us for the adventure of a
lifetime.  Karlyn Holman and Art in
the Mountains invite you to join us
on this 20-day art adventure from
    Santiago, Chile to San Francisco,
    California.  Karlyn will provide
    instruction, demonstrations,
individual help and critiques on the
days at sea so you can enjoy your
    off-shore excursions with your
    companion(s).  No on location
    painting experience is necessary.
Karlyn will teach En Plein Air
techniques, as well as fun and free
    approaches to watercolor.  Enjoy
    travel adventures with other artists
    without hauling all kinds of
equipment. We will paint in the
comfort of the ship's dining room
and use our "off of the ship time" to
gather photos and just have fun.
Karlyn has taught more than seventy-
    five International workshops and
feels that painting and travel are
    valuable learning experiences.  With
the aid of digital cameras, iPads and
printers, we can return to our studio
on the ship and create our paintings.

Karlyn has had a studio-gallery since 1968, and enjoys a full schedule of teaching workshops and painting in her
studio.  Karlyn’s watercolors reflect a special kind of exuberance for her native area of Lake Superior and her travels
around the world.   Her paintings could be described as realism based on abstract structure.  Her teaching style is
high-spirited and humorous.  She has illustrated five children’s picture books and has written five books on
watercolor techniques: Watercolor Fun and Free; Searching for the Artist Within; Watercolor-The Spirit of
Spontaneity;  Watercolor Without Boundaries and Watercolor Making Your Mark.  Karlyn has an MA in Art from the
University of Wisconsin and has taught at the college level for ten years.  She leads International Painting trips all over
the world.  She makes her home with her husband Gary in Washburn, Wisconsin.
